SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF WASHINGTON ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN 2010 ON JUNE 2ND.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS OF WASHINGTON ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN 2010

Once again, law enforcement officers of the Olympic Peninsula are poised to participate in the annual torch run in support of the Special Olympic Games held at Joint Base Lewis/McCord. This year, the run will take place on June 2nd and the torch will be carried from Lairds Corner to the Hood Canal where the Port Gamble S’klallam Tribe is planning to canoe the torch across to Salisbury Park in Kitsap County. Chief Bill Lyon of the LaPush Police Department has the honor of starting the run this year.

Criminal Justice agencies including the Clallam and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices, Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend Police Departments, Washington State Patrol, National Park Service, US Border Patrol, Clallam Bay Corrections Center, and the US Coast Guard plan on participating. The torch will arrive at the base gates on Friday evening, June 4th.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict will lead a group of walkers for one mile from the Port Angeles City Pier to the old Rayonier site, and Jefferson County Sheriff Hernandez is planning to complete the run with the final mile to Hood Canal.

This year, t-shirts are available to everyone as a fund raiser in support of the Special Olympics with all proceeds going to the program. The t-shirts can be pre-ordered by contacting Ron Cameron at 417-2570, or Glen Roggenbuck at 417-4951. They are $20 and come in sizes ranging from small to XXXL.

In addition, Applebee’s in Sequim is helping law enforcement with fundraising this year by providing a pancake breakfast on May 22 from 0800 to 1000 for $8. Tickets are on sale from area law enforcement agencies. Just contact your area agency through the business / non emergency line and tell them you are interested in buying tickets to the Applebee’s Torch Run Breakfast and arrangements will be made to get them to you. Most of the $8 goes to the Special Olympics of Washington. Officers from various departments will be at Applebee’s on May 22nd to help serve and otherwise get in the Applebee’s employees way.
