Harper Woods resident honored by Optimist Club of Grosse Pointe
Pastor Darren Harville has been honored by the Optimist Club of Grosse Pointe for his contributions to the City of Harper Woods. Pastor Harville received a certificate of appreciation at their annual Respect for Law Breakfast yesterday morning. Pastor Harville is an invaluable asset to our police department and we congratulate him on this award.
Kent Commer of the Optimist Club stated "Pastor Darren Harville is an invaluable resource to the Harper Woods community, donating countless hours volunteering at Harper Woods High School as a mentor and counselor to many kids. He regularly donates meeting space in his church for community support programs, and acts as a liaison between the police department and the community and has negotiated several tense situations to a peaceful result. Pastor Harville has gained the trust of young people in Harper Woods, demonstrated by the handguns that are anonymously turned in to him for destruction. He also volunteers as the citizen representative on the municipal pension board. For his selfless acts to the Harper Woods community and police department, we congratulate and present Pastor Harville with our Respect for Law Commendation."
Pastor Harville is lead pastor of New Life Ministries on Lochmoor in Harper Woods.
