Two Harper Woods Police Officers named Police Officer of the Year by the Michigan Police Officers Association! 
The Police Department was proud to announce the recent selection of Chief Randolph Skotarczyk as Police Chief of the Year by the POAM. It is now my honor to inform you that Deputy Chief James Burke and Officer Jason Sakowski have been named Co-Police Officer of Year by the POAM for the heroic actions they took during the rescue of a critically injured motorist from a burning vehicle on November 16, 2009. They were assisted by St. Clair Shores Officer Matt Steppey.
In addition to the accident, both dedicated Officers serve vital leadership roles in the Harper Woods Police Department that have been instrumental in our success.
This is an unbelievable honor to now have three of our Officers recognized during the same year by an organization representing over 300 agencies and over 12,000 Officers.
None of this would be possible without the support and cooperation of the Citizen of Harper Woods. It is an honor to serve you and I hope you are pleased with the service we provide.
