Sex offender in custody; sought for questioning in child sex abuse investigation
BY JENNIFER A. BOWEN - News-Democrat
Police have located a convicted sex offender who is wanted for questioning in an ongoing criminal sexual abuse investigation involving a child.
Kenneth Conklin, 35, who had listed his address as 107 Princeton Drive near Belleville, was found and arrested at his mother's home at 23972 Brewer St. in Crockett, Mo., according to St. Clair County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Johnson.
The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department was looking for Conklin after Investigator Gerry Brown showed up at the door of the mobile home Monday for a routine sex offender compliance check. Instead of finding Conklin, Brown instead found an abandoned structure without floors, walls, running water or electricity.

The sexual abuse case allegedly occurred at the mobile home on Princeton Drive, according to St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Capt. Steve Johnson.
Conklin is serving probation on a 2008 conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a victim who was between 13 and 16 years old.
