PHONE SCAM WARNING

On Wednesday April, 21, 2010 the Cleona Borough Police Department received a complaint from a Borough resident regarding a possible "SCAM" call. The Borough is providing this information to the community to be aware of this type of scam.

The resident received a call from a woman stating that she was her granddaughter and provided her correct name, she indicated that she was in Niagara Falls, driving a rental car, was involved in an accident, and charged with DUI, and needed money to be sent to her for Bail. A man then placed a call to the resident stating that his name is David Wiseman, an attorney and needed to have her send money via Western Union and the money order is to labeled, "Family Business", and made out to the name of Crystal Simons.

The resident, who was suspicious, confirmed with the granddaughter that she was not involved in this reported incident and no money order was sent.

The Police Department has determined that this was a scam attempt and advises residents to be cautious with these types of phone calls. Residents should contact the Police Department at 717-274-2510 if they believe they have received similar phone calls.
