Officer Dan Whelan has been selected as the 2008 Police Officer of the Year for Litchfield
Officer Whelan started with the Litchfield Police Department in 2006. During his time with the police department he has demonstrated a consistent work ethic and has always exceeded in our expectations.
In 2008 officer Whelan responded to a residential burglary in which several thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was stolen, namely a plasma television, large generator, and several power tools. The result of this burglary had the potential to close this business owner’s livelihood. Officer Whelan took it upon himself to actively investigate the case and developed several leads. The investigation spanned to the communities of Hooksett, Hudson, and Derry, New Hampshire. Officer Whelan recovered all of the stolen items. This in itself is very unusual.
Officer Whelan conducted an interview of the suspect and received a full confession.
During 2008 Officer Whelan also led the Litchfield Police Department in arrests and in DWI arrests. Officer Whelan’s positive attitude and personable demeanor is truly reflects the professional police officer he is today.
