65th Avenue / Haines Road, Pinellas Park

Officers were sent to a report of a suspicious device that was in a ditch near Haines Road and 65 Avenue North.  The article is approximately 18 inches long and 6 inches in diameter and resembles a cartridge that would be used in an artillery gun.  Police officers restricted traffic in the area to keep people from getting too close.  Tampa Bomb Squad was called to examine and dispose of the device.   The device was apparently found by a scrapper near a mobile home park on Haines Road.  He had been carrying this item around with him for the past couple days and intended on selling it as scrap metal.  This morning friends saw the item and told the scrapper they thought it might be dangerous so the scrapper place the item into a drainage ditch and called police.
