Mandatory Liability Insurance ***REMINDER***

As of June 1st, 2010, per WI State Statute 344.62, no person may operate a motor vehicle upon a highway in the State of Wisconsin, unless the owner or operator of the vehicle has in effect a motor vehicle liability policy with respect to the vehicle being operated. You must also have proof of insurance available at all times with the vehicle, and are required to display this proof when asked by a law enforcement officer. There are penalties for not having insurance, not being able to display proof of insurance, and/or displaying fraudulent, false, or invalid proof of insurance.
If you are stopped in a vehicle by a Hartford Police Department officer, you WILL BE ASKED for your driver’s license and proof of insurance. Fines range from $10 to $681 for these violations.
