Domestic Assault Turns into Hostage Situation, Man Does Not Allow 3 Women and a Child to Leave Residence
At approximately 2230 hrs. on Sunday April 4, 2010 Officers from the LeClaire Police Department and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a domestic assault that had take place at 705 Jones St. in LeClaire.
The victims were located at the scene and had sustained injuries from the assault. The suspect left the scene prior to officer’s arrival. Officers arrested another person at the scene on an unrelated warrant. Officers transported that person to the Scott County Jail. While Officers were at the jail the original suspect involved in the domestic assault returned to the scene and would not let anybody in the house leave the residence initially.
Officers returned to the scene to a report that the suspect was back in the residence with three women and a 5 year old child. Additional Scott County Deputies arrived as did Troopers from the Iowa State Patrol to assist with the situation. Shortly after one woman was allowed to leave. Officers established contact with the suspect by telephone. Several times they were disconnected.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Team arrived with the Scott County Emergency Command Center. LeClaire Fire Department and Medic Ambulance also responded to the scene to assist. A Scott County Hostage Negotiator talked to the suspect several times. Ultimately the Scott County Emergency Services Team made entry into the residence and the suspect was arrested. He was transported to the Scott County Jail.
The suspect is: Anthony Ramirez, age 28.
He is charged with:
2 Counts of Child Endangerment
2 Counts of Domestic Assault
Interference with Official Acts
He is being held at the Scott County Jail pending arraignment.
