CENTERTON BRIDGE CLOSED UNTIL MAY 7
FOR SCHEDULED VARIOUS REPAIRS
Historic Centerton Bridge over the Rancocas Creek North Branch that connects Willingboro and Westampton to Mount Laurel is scheduled to be closed until at least May 7th for various repairs.
The bridge was closed March 26th for emergency repairs to the bridge decking. The County Engineer’s Office had various other repairs scheduled for April and decided to begin the work now. The County Highway Department Bridge Section will perform the repairs.
Repairs include extensive metal work, including replacing the metal pans (decking) that supports the asphalt over the bridge, repairs to the guardrail, repairs to some bridge structure, repairs to the opening mechanism and replacing a section of the concrete decking over the mechanism.
Traffic normally accessing the bridge along Centerton Road (County Route 635) will be detoured to Creek Road (CR636), I-295 and Beverly-Rancocas Road (CR626). Centerton Road will be open to local traffic only on both sides of the bridge.
The center swing-span bridge was built 1903 by NJ Bridge Co. of Manasquan NJ. It is manually operated and in the National Register of Historic Places.
