On 03/19/10 at approximately 6:50 p.m., Alexandria Police Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in the city of Alexandria about 15 minutes prior to officers coming into contact with it. Upon initiating the stop, the suspect, and only occupant of the vehicle, a 17 year old white male, refused to stop and led police on a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit began on Hazel Hill Road near Lake Victoria and proceeded into Douglas County ending on County Road 77, one half mile east of County Road 17. The duration of the pursuit was approximately 10 minutes and reached speeds of between 70 and 80 m.p.h. The driver lost control of the stolen vehicle due to excessive speeds and a gravel road. The vehicle rolled completely over and came to rest on its wheels in the ditch. The driver was transported to the Douglas County Hospital via North Ambulance and later flown to the St. Cloud Hospital by North Air Care. At the time of this news release the driver’s injuries and condition are unknown.
