Basic SkyWarn weather spotter class being offered in Henrico on 06/10/2009. See www.henricofire.org for info!

Are you interested in the weather? Would you like to learn how your observations can help save lives??

The Weather Forecast Office in Wakefield, VA serves 51 counties and 15 independent cities in central and eastern Virginia, northeast North Carolina, and the Eastern Shore. While new RADAR capabilities enable them to better detect severe weather like thunderstorms and tornados, they still need ground truth to supplement their warnings.

Each year, Henrico County Division of Fire’s Office of Emergency Management partners with the National Weather Service Office in Wakefield to offer free SkyWarn weather spotter classes to the community. This year, we will be offering a Basic SkyWarn weather watcher course on June 10, 2009 at 6:00pm at the Henrico Theatre (305 E. Nine Mile Rd). The course lasts approximately 2 hours and teaches you what to look for and report when severe weather strikes!

If you’d like to sign up, please email Anna McRay at mcr@co.henrico.va.us or call 501-7183. Information on these courses is available online at
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/akq/spotterinfo/skywarn.htm .
