Stabbing occurred earlier today 7000 Block of Santa Lucia Road/APD Officers threatened with knives

On March 17, 2010, Officers from the Atascadero Police Department responded to a residence in the 7000 block of Santa Lucia Road in Atascadero regarding a report of a verbal altercation. Upon their arrival, officers were confronted in the driveway of the residence by a male later identified as Quincy Simms, 27 years of age. Simms warned officers to stay away, produced two large carving knives and advanced slowly toward them.

Officers responded to the threat by drawing their weapons and ordering Simms to drop the knives. Simms subsequently stopped his advance and tossed the knives to the ground beside him and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers noticed that Simms was bleeding significantly from a leg wound and had a visible contusion on his head and was transported to Twin Cites Community Hospital for medical treatment.

Simms has been less than cooperative in providing information regarding the assault, however, he later told investigators he was assaulted by three individuals known to him. One of the suspects hit him on the head with a hammer and another stabbed him in the leg. APD cannot release names of those allegedly involved at this point in the investigation. Detectives continue to investigate. Simms will be booked into SLO County Jail on charges of brandishing a weapon and assaulting a police officer.
