Auto Burglary Arrest Press Release

An Antioch man was arrested after being caught by the owner burglarizing the victims van on the 1400 block of Military West Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, 35 year old Sage Ray, was eventually booked into the Solano County Jail in Fairfield on charges of felony assault, burglary, possession of burglary tools, and violation of probation.

At about 5 pm Tuesday, Benicia Police received a report of two men fighting in the parking lot of a business complex on the 1400 block of Military West.

Upon arriving moments later, it was determined that Ray had been caught trying to flee the scene after breaking into a 2005 Ford Van in the parking lot of the complex. The victim had been performing some work in the building and came outside to find Ray putting items from the van into a car Ray was driving (a 1995 Mazda MPV).

Upon the victim confronting Ray, Ray tried to leave the scene and a physical fight ensued between the two. An uninvolved third party in the complex called the police to report the fight.

Upon arresting Ray, various tools and other miscellaneous items taken from the victims van and valued in excess of $6,000 were found in Ray's vehicle. A stereo speaker stolen earlier in the day from an unlocked car on the 100 block of Rankin Drive in Benicia was also found in the Mazda.

During the altercation, Ray threatened the victim with a screwdriver and the victim also suffered minor injuries, hence the felony assault charge. It was determined that Ray is currently on felony probation in Contra Costa County for burglary.

This latest arrest adds to the list of arrests and contacts the Benicia Police Department has made to stem a recent rise in home and car burglaries.

"In the last couple of weeks these types of crimes have significantly decreased," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "This arrest and the others are hopefully sending a message that criminals will get caught in our town."
