Sexual Predator Travels from Kentucky to Georgia for Sex with a Minor, Meets with Deputies Instead
(Paulding County, GA) Convicted Internet Sexual Predator Jeffrey Nickel, a 32 year old male, from Louisville, Kentucky was sentenced on March 12, 2010 in U.S. District Court of Northern Georgia to serve 10 years in federal prison after traveling to Paulding County, Georgia to have sexual contact with a minor.
Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Crimes against Children Detective Lenny Carr began working an undercover investigation on April 2008 posing as a 14 year old girl and communicated with Nickel in online conversations. During those conversations Nickel sent nude photos of himself and requested nude photos from Carr’s undercover persona. “In June 2008 Nickel traveled from Kentucky to Paulding County, Georgia with the intention of having sexual relations with who he thought was a 14 year old girl,” said Carr. Nickel was arrested with the assistance of Crimes against Children detectives, Patrol deputies and supervisors, and the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force. Nickel was tried and found guilty of Coercion and Enticement in federal court on December 15, 2009.
According to Detective Carr, who is an affiliate of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the case could not have been successful without the assistance and cooperation of several agencies including Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois (who was working a similar case on Nickel), the U.S. Marshall's Office, ICE agents, the FBI, and the United States Attorney General’s office.
