PCSO encourages residents of storm damaged area to avoid potential hazards from debris - remain indoors if possible.

The PCSO has received a number of inquiries regarding weather conditions in the Haines City area, specifically Marion Creek and Kokomo Roads within the Greneleaf Resort community in Haines City.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office information is as follows:

There were no reports of injuries as a result of the storm. Residents are reminded of the hazards from storm debris. With the increased likelihood of potential injury due to downed trees, and other structural rubble not seen in the darkness, residents are encouraged to remain indoors. The PCSO is assisting county emergency responders in the damage assessment and will remain on the property throughout the evening.

As you are already aware, at approximately 5:00 pm, Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was advised that a tornado had touched down in the area of Marion Creek Road. Deputies were dispatched to assist.

While damage is still being assessed, a command post has been established at the conference center on Camelot Drive within the Greneleaf property.
