Serious Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Three Cars: 7yr Old Severely Injured

DETAILS : Officers were sent to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving three cars at the intersection of S. Bell St and Morton Ave at approximately 3:48 on March 10, 2010. When they arrived on scene they found that a 7 years old female had been severely injured. AMS transported the child to a local hospital. She was rushed into surgery. She remains in critical condition. The APD Traffic Investigation Unit responded to assist in the investigation.
****UPDATE 3/11/2010, 8:40 AM*****Traffic Investigations reports that as of 7:40 AM, there is NO status change for the 7 year old victim in this accident, she is still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Traffic Investigations has provided more detail of the accident. The child was a passenger in the rear seat of a silver 2008 Mazda that was turning northbound on Bell to westbound on Morton at the time of the accident. A gray 2001 Cadillac was southbound on Bell. The Mazda failed to grant right-of-way turning left, and the front of the Cadillac struck the passenger side of the Mazda. The Mazda was knocked into a red Kia that was stopped at the stop sign on Morton at Bell. The driver of the Cadillac suffered what was only described as a non-incapacitating injury and was not transported by ambulance. There were two occupants in the Kia. Neither was injured and the vehicle had only minor damage. The report indicates that everyone in the accident was wearing a seat belt. There have been no charges filed at this point in the investigation.
