Hillsborough County Residents Have a Voice in Developing the FY 11 Budget

Hillsborough County has gone social... social media that is, in looking for public input on the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget.

With the economic downturn and property values continuing to decrease, there is a predicted budget shortfall again this year. In these lean budget times, County leaders want to know what services county residents use and what matters to them most.

In an attempt to engage residents in the budget process, Hillsborough County is employing the latest social media tools. You can:

and voicemail or text message your budget concerns to 813-704-0181.

In fact, in going to the County’s Web page ( you will find a megaphone graphic that will take you straight to all things budget. You will even be able to watch the budget hearings and workshops live or prior meetings on demand.

All public comments, no matter through which form, will be sent to County management and budget staff and County Commissioners for consideration in developing the recommended budget. This recommended budget will be delivered to the County Commissioners from the County Administrator on June 3.

After that time, County Commissioners will discuss efficiencies and possible reductions until the September 23 Budget Public Hearing when the final FY 11 Budget will be adopted.
