Benicia's First Bank Robbery of 2010, Suspect Described as Af. Am. Male, 30 to 40 y/o Fled on Foot

The Benicia Police Department received a report at 10:57 am this morning (February 24th) that the US Bank at 848 Southampton Road had been robbed by the suspect as described below.

The suspect walked up to a teller, said he had "a gun" and demanded money. The teller complied and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was last seen running on foot westbound through the shopping center. The FBI was notified and is assisting in the investigation.

The suspect is described as an African American male, 30 to 40 years of age, 5'8" to 5'10", 180 pounds (stocky build), wearing a blue beanie hat with a bill on the front, blue jumpsuit, and carrying a white plastic bag. A photograph is attached.

"This is Benicia's first bank robbery of 2010," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "We had only three bank robberies in 2009. As with our other bank robberies, we are confident we can solve this crime. We are also asking the public to come forward with any information if they recognize the suspect in the picture we have released."

In addition, the FBI has become involved in the investigation and the Benicia Police Department will be working with other agencies to see if they have had similar crimes involving this suspect.

Anyone with any information on this crime is asked to contact Detective Kenny Hart at (707)746-4252 or via e-mail at khart@ci.benicia.ca.us or CRIME STOPPERS at (707)644-STOP (7867). Any questions regarding this press release, please contact Lt. Michael Daley at (707)590-4259 or reply via e-mail.
