Shade Brigade Meeting: GroOrganic; Edible Gardening With Karen Fields and Maria Rotunda
Thursday, February 25; 6:30 PM
Plantation Development Services Building, 401 NW 70th Terrace
Karen Fields has been a dedicated edible gardener in South Florida for the past 10 years. She is an organic gardening coach and is behind a movement for Slow Food (food that is good for you & the environment is worth waiting for). Ms. Fields speaks to groups about edible gardens as an alternative to traditional landscapes. She works for groOrganic, a California based company that designs & installs sustainable gardens in backyards, on balconies and in public schools. Ms. Fields helped install groOrganic’s Earth Boxes for growing fruit & vegetables gardens at Dillard High School and Northwestern High School. Maria Rotunda works with Ms. Fields through Earthprints, a South Florida based organization dedicated to educating students about the science of climate change & how to reduce our carbon footprint.
