The Palm Springs Police Department offers free transmitter through Project Lifesaver!

Project Lifesaver International is a non-profit organization established to locate citizens who are prone to wander due to Alzheimer's disease, autism, and other cognitive disorders. Individuals enrolled in the program wear a personalized, wristwatch-sized radio transmitter that allows first responders to find them quickly and efficiently.

Project Lifesaver, which began eleven years ago, boasts a membership of over 1,000 public safety agencies. Since the inception of the program, over 2,000 recoveries have been made by Project Lifesaver agencies, with an average recovery time of thirty minutes.

The Palm Springs Police Department is the first agency in Riverside County to offer this service to its citizens, and, through a grant, is able to provide Project Lifesaver wristbands free of charge to individuals with limited income. Palm Springs Police Department Volunteer Coordinator William Johnson stated that "the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, through Project Lifesaver International, will equip several local residents with transmitters at no cost."

For additional information about the Project Lifesaver Program or to enroll someone that may benefit from the services provided by Project Lifesaver, please call the Palm Springs Police Department Citizens On Patrol Office at (760)323-8149.
