TIME: Approximately 10:55 a.m.

LOCATION: “Target” 17700 blk of Colima Rd, Industry

UNIT: Industry Sheriff Station

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Major Crimes Bureau, Metro Detail detectives were notified that Industry Station patrol deputies were investigating a kidnapping that occurred at a retail business located on the 17700 block of Colima Road, City of Industry.  At approximately 10:55 a.m. , a female adult victim was exiting the store with her one-year-old child and other family members.  The victim was approached by her estranged boyfriend and father of her child (later identified as Suspect Dragan Antonescu), who was accompanied by his mother and father (later identified as Suspects Viorel Illie MW/48 and Marioara Illie FW/40, of Denver Colorado).  Antonescu, with the assistance of his parents, violently assaulted by victim and forcibly removed the one-year-old from the victim’s grasp.  Antonescu produced a knife, threatened the victim and her family, and fled the location with the child in a grey colored Toyota Sienna minivan.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment due to minor injuries she received during the assault.

Based upon the violent nature of the assault, detectives believed the kidnapped child was in serious physical danger and the California Highway Patrol was requested to issue an Amber Alert to enlist the public’s help in locating the child.  In addition, Metro Detail detectives notified law enforcement agencies in Arizona.  The Arizona Department of Public Safety located the vehicle in the city of Winslow, Arizona, where Antonescu and his parents were arrested.  The unharmed child was rescued and placed into protective custody by Arizona authorities.
The facts of this case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for a consideration of filing multiple felony charges, including Kidnapping and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, against all three suspects, as well as their extradition back to Los Angeles County.  The victim’s child return to California is being coordinated by the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s and Family Services.
