Level II Essential Travel Permitted
Snow Emergency Has Been Declared in Wayne County
On Tuesday February 9, 2010 at 7:00 PM the Wayne County Commissioners declared a Level II Essential Travel Permitted Snow Emergency to be in effect in Wayne County, the City of Richmond and the Town of Centerville. This snow emergency declaration will be in effect until 6:00 PM. On Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Significant blowing and drifting is expected during this emergency making roads impassable and any travel very hazardous. Get to a place of safety and be prepared to stay where you are if you do not have to travel for essential purposes.
During a Level II Essential Travel Permitted Snow Emergency, only essential travel will be permitted on county roads. This declaration does not include state or federal highways ( I-70, US 40, US 35, US 27, S.R. 38, S.R. 1, S.R. 227 and S.R. 121) Essential travel is defined in the ordinance as:
• Travel to and from work and school
• Travel to obtain essential medical care
• Travel to obtain essential prescription medications
• Travel to obtain essential supply of food or fuel
• Travel to obtain safe shelter
• Travel of emergency vehicles and emergency workers
Vehicle operators traveling for essential purposes are required to operate their vehicles safely and with all caution necessary for the existing conditions. Any travel may be significantly delayed. Plan to travel by main roads and allow for extra driving time. Motorists who become stranded risk injury if exposed to existing conditions. Do not take un-necessary chances.
Travel for non-essential purposes is prohibited. Violators may be fined up to $150.00.
Parking on all county roads and their right-of-way is prohibited. Vehicles which are found parked in violation of this order will be removed at the owner’s expense. Vehicles which are stalled, stranded or found abandoned on county roads or their right-of-way will also be removed at the owner’s expense.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department will maintain information on any vehicle towed or removed form a county road during this emergency. The Sheriff’s Department may be contacted at (765) 973-9393 for information concerning the disposition of any vehicle removed. The vehicle owner must pay any towing, storage or other fees before the vehicle may be released.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST
WEDNESDAY...
OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING...WITH ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL OF AN INCH OR LESS. ANOTHER AREA SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...AND LAST INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. SOME BRIEF BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS ACTIVITY. TOTAL ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL FOR TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WILL BE ONE TO THREE INCHES.
IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW...NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TONIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY...WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 35 AND 40 MPH. THE COMBINATION OF FALLING SNOW...SNOW ALREADY ON THE GROUND...AND GUSTY WINDS MAY LEAD TO NEAR WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. BLOWING SNOW WILL ALSO MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CLEAR ROADWAYS...AND TRAVEL ACROSS THE WARNED AREA WILL BE HAZARDOUS TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.
A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
