Winter Storm Update. WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST WEDNESDAY

All Wayne County roads and city streets are currently open and passable. Main roads are wet while county roads and secondary streets are snow covered. Use caution on your evening commute. Increasing winds later tonight will cause significant blowing and drifting of snow and near white-out conditions. Travel will become especially hazardous. Expect a Travel Emergency Level to be issued for tonight and tomorrow. Get to a safe place and be prepared to stay there.

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST WEDNESDAY

OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY THIS EVENING...WITH ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL OF AN INCH OR LESS. ANOTHER AREA SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...AND LAST INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. SOME BRIEF BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS ACTIVITY. TOTAL ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL FOR TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY WILL BE ONE TO THREE INCHES.

IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW...NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TONIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY...WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 35 AND 40 MPH. THE COMBINATION OF FALLING SNOW...SNOW ALREADY ON THE GROUND...AND GUSTY WINDS MAY LEAD TO NEAR WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. BLOWING SNOW WILL ALSO MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CLEAR ROADWAYS...AND TRAVEL ACROSS THE WARNED AREA WILL BE HAZARDOUS TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

LATEST WILMINGTON WFO WINTER STORM UPDATE SUMMARY:
See http://www.erh.noaa.gov/iln/files/brf/ilnbrf.html

* A scattered wintry mix will continue through early evening over especially southeast OH, with just rain possible farther south closer to the Ohio River into northern KY. All precipitation will turn back to snow Tuesday night.

* As of 3PM Tuesday, drier air is pushing from southwest to northeast through the region. Most of the accumulating snow will occur Tuesday, with lesser amounts Tuesday night and Wednesday as the precipitation resumes in a more showery form.

* Winds will turn from the west Tuesday night, then west-northwest Wednesday. Speeds will increase to 15-25 mph, with gusts of 30-40 mph, especially on Wednesday. This will result in extensive blowing and drifting snow, and white-out conditions at times. Winds will continue rather gusty Wednesday night, with a slow decrease expected Thursday. This will make it very difficult to keep roadways clear of existing snow.

* Storm Total Snowfall Accumulation by Wednesday afternoon will range from 4"-6" over south-central OH and northern KY, to 4"-8" over southeast IN and the remainder of the southern half of OH, to 6"-9" over much of northern OH. Some 8"-11" values are possible across portions of the northwest quarter of OH. Actual snow depths in areas where mixed precipitation occurs will be less than the total snowfall due to some compaction and melting of the snow.

* Wind chill temperatures will be in the single digits to near zero later Tuesday night and on Wednesday.
