Cold weather shelters opened today around county; be mindful using heaters, fireplaces, and wood stoves in your home

Hillsborough County officials have decided to open cold weather shelters today, Saturday, Feb. 6, for the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat.
The shelters are:
Bethune Park Rural Shelter (South County) 5809 Edina St. in Wimauma
This shelter opens at 6 p.m. and is for adults and families.

Brandon Community Center, 510 E. Sadie St. in Brandon
This shelter opens at 5:30 p.m. and is for homeless individuals and families with children in the Brandon Area.

Metropolitan Ministries, 2010 N. Florida Ave. in Tampa
This shelter opens at 4 p.m. and is for families.

Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave. in Tampa
This shelter opens at 4 p.m. and is only for adults.
After-hours phone: (813) 221-4440

The Bethune Park location will stay open until 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, and meals will be provided. Brandon Community Center will stay open until 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning and meals will be provided.

Hillsborough County's Health & Social Services Department works with these organizations to help provide cold weather shelters when temperatures are predicted to reach 32 degrees or below, including the wind chill.
