A telephone based jury duty scam has been reported in 11 states. The purpose is identity theft. See email for details

Jury duty scam; All of us receive jury duty notices. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people do not and a new kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the caller asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states. The FBI and the federal court systems have issued nationwide alerts warning consumers about the fraud.
The Liberty Police Department would like to remind our residents to be cautious of this and the Haiti Earthquake Relief fraud which uses similar tactics to obtain credit card numbers.
